What is an Apostille or Authentication?
An “apostille” is a cover page that is attached to your U.S. document to verify the official's signature on the document and validate or authenticate it for use in another country. For countries that participate in the Hague Convention of 1961, an apostille will satisfy the requirements to authenticate the document. Castillo Mobile Notary Services aids in getting your documents apostilled. It can be a tricky process for the public to understand and we are happy to facilitate the process on your behalf.
When presenting your paperwork to another country, you need a form of authentication that verifies the attached signatures and seals. There are two types of validation:
Have your document apostilled
Have your document legalized by the Embassy/Consulate
The Hague Convention of 1961 established a uniform process of confirming the authenticity of documents. Countries belonging to this convention accept papers that are apostilled, while non-member countries only accept legalized documents that are processed through the Embassy or Consulate.
Don’t worry if you are unsure which verification your destination country requires, we are able to apostille a document properly and return it quickly to you.
Obtaining an Apostille or Embassy Legalization
Getting documents apostilled can be challenging and time-consuming. In most cases, you will need to obtain an original, certified copy of the document you are required to apostille or authenticate. Once obtained, the original document will have to be submitted to the issuing office of authentications, such as the Secretary of State or the US State Department, for apostille or authentication. Embassy legalization may be required if you are getting married in, seeking employment in, or moving to another country. The biggest challenge in the apostille process is overcoming the requirements one must meet before the document is valid for apostille or authentication. Castillo Mobile Notary Services will facilitate the process for you and ensure that state and federal requirements are met to successfully obtain apostille or authentication of your documents.
